There are far fewer dragonflies and damselflies this year likely owing to the extended drought two years ago. Most species take one or two years to develop as bnymphs underwater alomng the edge of the ponds. When the drought lowered the pond levels a couple of years ago for an extended period it's likely many of thedragonfly and damselfly nymphs did not survive.

Note the missing toes, something I have seen many times with Green Herons I have photographed at the park over the years. Not positive how this happens, possibly from frostbite. Indicates this is one of the nesting adults rather than a bird born this summer.
