This Week at Nixon Park - June 7-14
A warmer week than last. As the high temperatures reach the eighties for a couple of days in a row dragonfly nymphs are finally beginning to emerge after a cold, wet spring.
Dragonflies : Common Whitetail, Eastern Pondhawk, two shots of a very recently emerged Widow Skimmer, Common Baskettail. Damselflies: Slender Bluet, Orange Bluet, Ebony Jeweling.

Two male Red-Bellied Woodpeckers sorting out territorial differences (female Red-bellied woodpeckers have only a red nape, males have a red nape and crown.) Once the tussle was over one flew off to hammer on a rain gutter (makes a very impressive sound) one reason woodpecker's hammer is to assert their territory.
