First sighting of this species for me at the park; the American Redstart is a warbler. The scientific name Setophaga ruticilla means moth eater with a red tail (this is a female, but the males do have a red tail)

It's butterfly season! Tiger Swallowtail, Orange Sulphur, Monarch with a broken wing, Red Admiral, Silver-spotted Skipper, Zabulon Skipper

Eastern Tailed-blue, a small butterfly with eye-spots and appendages that resemble antennas on the hind wing. At rest they rub their hind wings together making them look as though they are the front end of the butterfly. Should a bid strike the hind wings the butterfly has a much better chance of an escape than if a bird strikes the head.

Red-Bellied Woodpecker, an as yet undetermined species of flycatcher (possible Acadian or Willow), Bluebird guarding a lacrosse goal, Carolina Wren, Catbird, likely one of teh fledgling Red-tailed Hawks we saw last week, Robin

Variable Dancer Damselfly, Short-winged Meadow Katydid, Amberwing Dragonfly

We spotted a Bald-faced Hornets nest on a recent nature walk, around the size of a cantalope the nest is being built up by the hornets as seen in the second picture.

Tiny member of the Sweat Bee Family, Spurred Ceratina, Honey Bee, Ligated Furrow Bee.
